mjzee
RIP. Made some very listenable, enjoyable albums in the late '70's.
Chuck Nessa
I knew him when we were both at the University of Iowa in the early '60s. He was a good guy.
Dmitry
I was lucky to see him perform last year. He was wonderful, but it was obvious he was in a lot pain and could barely stand up, relying on a band member to basically carry him around. Al addressed the audience to describe his immobility as a result of bad spinal surgeries. RIP... Edited February 12, 2017 by Dmitry
jlhoots
I met Al back when we were both teenagers in Milwaukee. Even got to play a little backup piano for him. I wasn't that good, he was very talented. R.I.P.

mikeweil
R.I.P. - I saw him perform in Frankfurt during his very first European tour, was impressed by his sensitivity. He lost me when me moved towards soul/pop more and more, but I always appreciated the rare occasions when he displayed his true jazz chops, like on Jon Hendricks' albums or his Accentuate the Positive album. Thanks for the moving moments I had with some of your singing, Mr. Jarreau!
Hardbopjazz
As a kid I saw Al perform Take 5 on a PBS program around 1975/1976, and I started to get hooked on jazz as a result of this. I couldn't find that video. This one is close enough. Edited February 13, 2017 by Hardbopjazz
