medjuck
Almost by accident I came across this on YouTube: It was recorded shortly before Hawk recorded Rifftide and long before Monk recorded Hackensack. My question is why did they even bother to call it Lady Be Good? Didn't whoever wrote it (I'm guessing Mary Lou) want royalties? Also: were there many jazz recoding on Asch? I know about the first JATP concert but were there many others? BTW Robin G Kelly makes a half hearted claim for Monk pointing out that he and Williams often worked on ideas together. I OK I just found the answer to the second question: http://www.78discography.com/Asch.htm Google is our friend. Big Beat Steve
In my opinion a case of cross-pollination and "like minds think alike".
Luciano
Please: LADY BE GOOD Featuring Mary Lou Williams & Coleman Hawkins JAZZ 1944 is this really about Lady Be good? Again: Rifftide Coleman Hawkins; Hackensack Thelonious Monk but is it the same song or there are some differences?
