Kenny Burrell 1959 rejected Blue Note session

I was completely unaware of "Joe Louis", and I live on Youtube.  Wow.  It's almost like being in a state of (semi-euphoric) panic trying to look through what's been uploaded already, sorting it out, and thinking about trying to listen to it all... especially when one gets distracted by the inevitable Youtube tangent phenomenon.

With the exception of the first Bobby Hutcherson session, have we actually seen Blue Note issue rejected sessions?  Lot's of unissued sessions have rightly eventually come out, but not rejected sessions to my memory.  And that is probably as it should be.

Still a crime The Trainwreck hasn't been issued in full (with complete alternate takes of four of the five tunes, no less).

Honestly, I think a lot of it is better than Natural Essence, (the ballad, most definitely better than the one on NE).

The whole thing hangs together beautifully, if you ask me. Rejected, afaik (or certainly that's been Michael's opinion all these years).

Has Cuscuna commented on the unreleased BN material on YouTube?  Does EMI still have the tapes?   I guess this stuff is public domain in the EU now since EMI never released it within 50 years of recording it.

Yes, it is officially listed as rejected.  I've noticed that many rejected sessions were re-recorded soon afterwards with the same personnel except for a change of drummers.

Interesting posting name - Joe Louis. Hmmmm, the first name of the guy I used to get these sessions from was Louis. I wonder if it's him? If so, it would be very surprising considering how closely he used to guard these session tapes. Maybe he's just getting to that age where he realizes that he won't be around forever?
