Spellcheck rather relentlessly insists on changing K h a i r a to Chair. She's one of the main characters in the documentary, They Will Have to Kill Us First--the excerpt of her concert on the streets of Timbuktu included in the film sent me looking for her music.

Pat Metheny "Song X" Remastered edition.

That 20th Anniversary edition really is light years better than the original. The sound quality (mix, whatever) on the original was practically halfway unlistenable — and the new mix is like a complete breath of fresh air.

Quite nifty that the bonus material is sequenced at the beginning of the album too — which (at least in this particular case) was a great programming decision, where it serves as a tasty appetizer to the ‘main course’ of the album itself.

Jesus, one more reminder of why I feel REALLY bad having to say (when I have to say it) that I just don't like Michael Brecker except for every once in a while. The dude played his ass off and was by all accounts totally humble about it.

But...nothing here for me except a detached admiration. That's all I can do with it.

Still, these guys came to play, and they certainly did

Woody Shaw - Basel 1980 (Elemental, 2019)
with Carter Jefferson, Larry Willis, Stafford James & Victor Lewis

Another outstanding WS archival release.  There's been lots of them -- but I think this is one of the best.

Very good concert and 2CD set !
