My favorite Zoot Sims recording. :tup

I also like this record very much. But some of the best Zoot Sims I heard on the Prestige Album Tenor Enclave.

And if you want to hear some really rare Zoot Sims, I´d recommend the set he did with the Bud Powell Trio in Paris in the early 60´s.

You can find it as Bud Powell at the Blue Note Cafe, the label is ESP Disk.

Zoot Plays very fine versions of "Takin a Chance of Love", "Groovin High" and "Bud´s Blues"...…..

Here: This is the Album cover of the CD where Zoot Sims Plays with Bud !

Brings some great memories back. I heard it first on Radio when it was brand new. We had a Wonderful hour of jazz Weekly on Saturday "Jazz Shop" About new records. And this one was something Special when it came out in 1977.

Yesterday this received several spins, the last with my conga drum students who understood what makes the groove on these tracks so great.  A must for all fans of Armando Peraza!

My friendship with this album has blossomed into a full-blown love affair.  I remember listening to it several times and liking it when I bought it in January of last year.  It was in the month leading up to my daughter's birth, so maybe I was too distracted to realize how great this album is.

My Ideal

Cover photo kinds of scares me. Music is good, though.

That's on my to-get list. Garrick is wonderful.

Bob Wilber & Kenny Davern - Soprano Summit (World Jazz)
I'm playing the CD version of this music, which compiles their first two LPs (less a couple tracks).

Gosh yes. VERY scary. What is that dude thinking?!?!?

I've busted my ass many times on slick rocks. But never while holding a baby!

For as much as I love this record, this is my only leader date of his, which is nuts.

All of those Dutton/Vocalion Garricks are great - not to be missed whilst they are still in print (although I suspect some of them are already OOP).

My LP copy of ‘Marigolds’ is signed by Michael Garrick at Dartington Hall, Devon, sometime in the early 1970s.

That little baby has grown up to be a wonderfully talented young actress -- it's PJ's daughter.  (Believe me, PJ undertook a LOT more dangerous activities earlier in his life...)
