Rollins with an excellent "conventional" rhythm section .... a gem still underappreciated by some ....

It is actually my go-to Sonny album. It has lived in my car for so long that it had eluded being uploaded to my Google library until yesterday.

Now playing:

I know, right?!?!?!

Sometimes I wonder what Lee Morgan (or Blue Mitchell, for that matter) would have sounded like working with Willie Mitchell. And sometimes I don't.

But jeez, between the Monk Higgins halfass nonsense and the Mizell Brothers market-friendly but jazz-clueless projects, why not some realass groove?

Anyone who has doubts about whether Bill Evans can play the blues, should listen to his somewhat lengthy solo on  "Blu-A-Round" on this disc.

Thanks for reminding me to play this one, which ended up in various stacks after I found it at a library sale and ripped it.  Barth is underrated and impressed me when I saw him live with Rodney Whitaker.  I've been meaning to play this one after recently listening to him on Terell Stafford's Lee Morgan tribute a couple times last week.
