Great album, terrible sound quality. Always wondered why it sounds so flat

John Beasley - Positootly! (Resonance). Nice date with Beasley at the keys and a killer band - Brian Lynch on trumpet, Bennie Maupin on tenor & soprano, James Genus on bass and Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums. Very nicely recorded too at (the now closed) Bennett Studios. Very glad I picked this one up at the Resonance sale a few weeks back.

This is a nice album, I didn't like it as much as Letter to Herbie though which is fantastic

I'll have to pick up the two-disc set of the Monk/Coltrane material and the full Riverside box someday (I have a partial set).  In the meantime, this mainly mono version sounds great.

I can't unsee this.

Alphea, by Hannes Weinart and Peter Niklas Wilson. A favourite from a few years back that I haven't listened to in a while. Free but gentle.

Matt Wilson's Arts & Crafts - The Scenic Route (Palmetto, 2006)

I think Matt Wilson does a great job of putting across a very clear personality in his music -- both in his compositions and his playing.  A friendly whimsicality and everyday good folks-y feeling.  "Arts & Crafts" is a perfect name.  ... Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's got/had such stellar musicians in his group. Terell Stafford, Gary Versace, and Dennis Irwin. (R.I.P.)

Wish I would've bought that CD back in the day.  Now, you've got pay a king's ransom for it!

... Maybe it'll get reissued one day.
