Posted 20 Oct 2020 (edited) What f*****g genius! Gone way too soon in tragic circumstances... This 2016 CD, produced by his mate and stride master Louis Mazetier, is a very relevant addition to his very reduced output as a leader. Posted 20 Oct 2020 Well, this pretty much covers the commercial discs released under Rilhac's name. Then we have his contribution to discs by clarinetist Maxime Saury, Joel Lacroix Jazz Orch, Jean Loup Longnon Big Band, Marcel Zanini's groups, Buster Benton, Bert De Kort & his Dutch Dixieland Pipers and Gilbert Leroux Washboard groups, with some piano solo features. Posted 20 Oct 2020 Excellent 71 minutes of that marvelous group Woody had in the early 80´s with Steve Turré , Mulgrew Miller, Stafford James and Tony Reedus (an excellent drummer by the way)
Posted 20 Oct 2020 The likely sketchy disc has 4 tracks not on the DVD, including a Stan Getz guest spot. It is prime Griffin, so the 4 bonus tracks are a welcome addition.
Posted 20 Oct 2020 Tito Rodriguez' band was every bit as good as Machito's or Tito Puente's. He had his own style, the groove his band gets is great. Whoever likes Machito from the late 1940's, will like Rodriguez from that time just as well.
