Couldn't find a cover photo that would fit in the small dimensions allowed, but I've been listening to "Last Night When We Were Young: The Ballad Album" that was put together by pianist Fred Hersch in '94 as an AIDS benefit. Phil Woods plays clarinet on one track ("Adios Nonino"). It's very pretty. I don't think I have Woods playing clarinet anywhere else.

Some more Benny Golson, via his arrangements on Brass Shout.  The reissue pairing it with The Aztec Suite is essential Art Farmer, IMO.

Yeah, I agree 100%.  :tup

Golson and Chico O'Farrill are two excellent composer/arrangers.

Listening to Fats Waller home recordings with Eubie Blake, JPJ, The Lion... originally issued as Ristic 22 & 23 with restoration by the great John R. T. Davies, and recently reissued for the first time on CD by Sounds of Yesteryear. This is music of the utmost importance, from an historical perspective, and soooo beautiful.... but the work done by the latter label is barely professional from a technical point of view, and the presentation so 'ugly', that I would gladly ask for a refund and stick to the cd-burn I received from a fellow stride piano collector many moons ago.

I want to see the Davis operas performed, not just presented. It's "different" for me, to say the least, but I could see really enjoy getting immersed in it live.

Listening to the '97 SBM Sony LP facsimile cd of this Miles Davis release. I like the sound better on this than on the disc in the Complete Columbia Album set. . . but of course I can't just sell or give away that disc, it's part of an 80 disc set.

The dilemnas of a collector. . . I know them well.

Piri "Voces Querem Mate"

This Brazilian trio of singers and instrumentalists is a sunny blast of upbeat beauty for a gray cold day. Reminding me a lot of the Tamba 3 and Tamba 4, with a bit more lushness of arrangements and of course more voices.

This is a beautiful CD.  I bought it when it first came out as a fundraiser for that Classical Action:  Performing Arts Against AIDS group.  Mark Murphy's performance of the title track is one of the greatest performances he ever recorded -- very moving.  For me, the surprise standout track was "Little Prayer" by Dave Catney, who passed away from AIDS complications not long after this CD was made.  It's a beautiful song of loss and remembrance which, unfortunately, is now all too relevant once again.

There was a subsequent CD issued by the same organization
