I was fooling around with a Telecaster and my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight SE amp yesterday and found some Curtis Mayfield sounds . . . which made me make a mental note to listen to some Curtis today.

So now spinning "Superfly" 2 cd edition, disc 1

The music on this CD was originally released as two Moodsville LPs: Everything's Mellow and All American.

Gorgeous, expressive playing from CT -- especially on the Everything's Mellow cuts.

I saw this one on the shelf and it jumped into my hand. I’m thinking guitar lately, been back into fooling around with my own. There’s no one like Kenny. He has such strong technique but he plays with feeling and has a great musical sound and thought with structure and drama. I forget how amazing he can be til I put on one of his recordings. Amazeballs.

Truly one of the best ensembles ever put together. Thanks for reminding me of this record.

Rossano is a superb pianist and a good friend, too, though the aspects of his playing which I like best are where the influence of his teacher, Barry Harris, is most apparent.

I've heard him play duets with Scott Robinson which were very good.

Yes, Rossano does nice duets.

Here he is with local tenorman, Liam Byrne, at my friend Malcolm Frazer's house. Liam told me they'd never played a note together before this!

I think this was a @HutchFan recommendation, for which thank you.

It's a TERRIFIC record.  I'd recommend it to anyone who'd listen!  :P

Yeah, I got it in '66, flogged it in '68 and bought another in Mole Jazz in '86, which I've still got. But I haven't played it since 2012. Saw it on a blog yesterday and got it again and moved the LP into the ripped LP section. I probably would have ripped it myself in due course but probably not for several years.

Nice stuff.

This morning

Got this in '69, but flogged it soon after. Got it again last Christmas and have kept on playing it, 'cos it's so nice.
