Bruce Gertz Quintet - Blueprint (Free Lance/Evidence, 1992)
The first of four records that Gertz made with Abercrombie and Bergonzi in the 1990s.  Good stuff.

Gertz used to have a bunch of old private label (Not Fat, Plug, New Age Records) LPs for sale. All of them with him and Bergonzi. Some good stuff in there.

I love Jack Wilson with Roy Ayers. Got this recently after I had heard them together somewhere else. I just don't remember now where.

Good idea: I should get back to listen to the original version again. In the last weeks I was listening more to 70´s jazz and so it was the "Maiden Voyage" played by VSOP.

Dollar Brand - Black Lightening (The Sun, 1976)

R-2689119-1518101819-1438.jpeg.jpg

Such a great record. The title track really does stomp.

Does anyone have any idea why these Al Shams / The Sun records have never been properly re-released, despite Brand's/Ibrahim's reputation?

As far as I am aware, they are all spread out over various tacky compilations.

Streaming this, but I would happily own it.

Edit: Having checked, this one is actually not that hard to find on vinyl.

Waiting for my LP of that and her more recent to arrive. I saw her gig at LJF and was bowled over

Now listening to this, off another LJF performance
