Don Byas Interview (1965) Audio Only

Cheers for posting the link - what an erudite person he was. Fishing (I knew about) but not the weightlifting. Favourite author was Edgar Alan Poe. Interview was recorded in 65 (during the Stockholm Jazz Festival) & he moved to Europe in 46 - his accent over the 20 years had developed into a very continental one. Fascinating 20 minutes of Don Carlos. Love his music!!

Yes, I was, and wow, that explains why I thought it interesting that Don Byas had acquired some kind of Gene Ammons influence!

Benny Golson, maybe? Or, what European player was working in that style? It's not consistently Jug-ish, but there are several touches that speak out.
