James Cleveland recorded his version with the Gospel All Stars on the Apollo label in 1953. Ray Charles recorded "Hallelujah I Love Her So" in 1955. Interesting stuff. Daniel A Posted August 15, 2017 Report Share Posted August 15, 2017 (edited) The Apollo single by the Gospel All Stars is mentioned in the April 14, 1958 edition of Billboard, so it may be that it was actually recorded after the Ray Charles tune. "At Apollo there is also increased activity, with a record by the Gospel All Stars," That's Why I Love Him So", released last week and more to come." Apollo had previously (ca 1955) been sued for infringement in another case, although it might not mean anything.
