Luciano
Someone could help me in order to tell me who plays on Pitchin Can. Is Archie Shepp who sings on: Uhuru Part 1 and Part 2, and he plays also the piano? I wish to know the personnel on: Uhuru Part 1 and Part 2 and Pitchin Can Thanks Luciano
felser
Here is the listed personnel, though it sounds like Shepp on the "vocals" to me on Uhuru. Definitely Dave Burrell on piano, though. That was his signature drone. felser
I'm not an expert on this obscure recording. While I have heard it in total, I don't own it. I was giving the personnel listing from discogs.
Chuck Nessa
Uhuru was recorded at the same session as Coral Rock and Pitchin' Can at the Black Gipsy session. The Coral Rock group was Lester Bowie, Alan Shorter, Clifford Thornton, Bobby Few, Bob Reid and Muhammad Ali. Black Gipsy was Thornton, Noah Howard, Julio Finn, Dave Burrell, Leroy Jenkins, Earl Freeman, Sonny Murray and Chicago Beauchamp. I don't remember if all musicians play on all tracks.
