Were there institutions to donate such a collection 1948, besides University libraries? From IMDB: "Her husband, Walton Robert Mayo, was a casting director for Columbia Pictures who died in 1958." I wonder if these would be air shots, or jam sessions, or...perhaps nothing at all. But that seems to be a somewhat specific bit of information about somebody who was not really a "star". How easy was it to come by that kind of gear back then, and how expensive was it? Did you have to be an "insider" or could you order one from Sears or something like that?
