optatio
I read it yesterday when I listened to Frank Strozier, Cloudy and Cool – see 'What are you listening ...“ - http://www.coloradomusic.org/memoriam-brilliant-pianist-billy-wallace-passes-pete-martinez-passes-cancer-notable-musicians-deaths/ . There is no user contribution on Wikipedia in English but in German Billy Wallace (Pianist), updated now by me. Justin V
Billy Wallace's playing on Max Roach's Jazz in 3/4 Time is brilliant. I knew that he was suffering from dementia, but I am glad that he spent his later years being such a beloved fixture of the Denver scene. Thank you for the music, Mr. Wallace, and rest in peace. optatio
„Jazz Pianist Billy Wallace: 1929–2017 Jazz pianist Billy Wallace passed away on December 9, 2017, in Denver, Colorado. Wallace got his start performing with Buddy Ryland, Max Roach, Clifford Brown, and Charlie Parker, and played as an accompanist for Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Anita O’Day, and many others. As for his impact on the Seattle jazz scene, he performed with Floyd Standifer, and recorded Soulful Delight (1994) with Phil Sparks and Clarence Acox. In his later years, Wallace became a steadfast member of the Denver jazz scene, performing regularly until his passing. He will be missed by many in the music communities of Chicago, Seattle, and Denver.“ Source: https://www.earshot.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/January-FINAL.pdf p.
