Peter Friedman
Thelonious Monk recorded many of his original tunes numerous times. Yet there are some he recorded very rarely. One such tune is "Friday The 13th", a favorite of mine. I was surprised to find that Monk only recorded this tune 3 or 4 times. To select just one example for comparison, Monk's "Straight No Chaser" was recorded by him more than 25 times.
Milestones
Others artists have liked the tune. In my collection I have versions by Joe Henderson, Steve Lacy, and Steve Khan.
Hardbopjazz
I really like the version Monk recorded with Sonny Rollins on Prestige records.
JSngry
Julius Watkins too! How many times did he record "Little Rootie Tootie" past the trio and then the big band?
