There may be someone out there, but I've never heard anyone come as close to Monk as this kid does. IMHO, Monk is his base, if his pants have 4 pockets, he needs to keep Monk in the 1st one at all times, he can do whatever he wants with the other 3, but he should never leave home without Monk being in one of those pockets. Having said that I was disappointed at tonight's concert. Not one note of monk did I hear. Just checked his new cd, and it looks like he's playing his new releases. That's cool, I get it, he doesn't want to be in a Monk clone, wants to explore and do other things but never abandon Monk. Every live concert he does, he should at least play a few notes of Monk. Tonight it was "Straight but it had Chasers" Hopefully his original compositions will gain depth with age, still a genius at 14(15 in June).
