Duke Ellington Carnegie Hall Dec 1947

Listening this morning to this Prestige release for the first time in many years, and am stunned to read how much material was left off the original 1977 2-LP release—11 songs in all, plus an Ellington hits medley. I understand the original omission, given that the issued material ran to 100 minutes, and Prestige was trying to keep it at double-LP length... but why wasn’t the extra material added to the 1991 CD reissue, which could have easily accommodated much if not all of it? There’s no added note to the 1991 CD version explaining whether or not those recordings were still available, or why they were not included in a format that offered additional space.

fwiw, the January 1943 concert was released as 3 LPs. But that was probably because of "Black Brown, and Beige", the full performance of the piece as originally written.

It would be sweet if we could get an authorized collection of all the material from all the 1940s Carnegie Hall concerts.
