Tubby Hayes Fontana Vinyl Box Forthcoming

Recommended Posts

Whilst perusing the ‘news’ section on the Jazzwise Mag site it would appear that there is not only a forthcoming ‘new’ Tubby Hayes Fontana album from 1969 coming out (a major new work, apparently) but also a box set in the works comprising all of Tubby’s Fontana albums newly remastered and presumably with a load of out-takes. Gearbox Records is mentioned so presumably vinyl, no doubt CDs and downloads to follow, as per Rendell/Carr.

This is really fantastic news - the box will also have booklet notes by Hayes Authority Simon Spillett.

Simon Spillett mentions this ‘lost’ session for Fontana with the Louis Stewart lineup in his bio. Great that it is finally to be released, in full. That particular band was very fine indeed.

Incidentally, just listening to Tubby in his unlikely 1965 big band recording with Friedrich Gulda. Good stuff !

Incidentally, the 11LP box set will presumably include ‘The Orchestra’, Tubby’s final  Fontana LP release back in the day. I don’t think that one has ever been reissued - maybe in Japan on limited issue but if so I haven’t seen it. That one is a very pleasant LP, although obviously aimed at the easy-listening market.
