Larry Kart
Check out this IMO remarkable Wilder solo on the piece "Mitch's Carol" from bassist Mort Herbert's 1956 album "Night People" (Savoy). The track begins at 32:44.

Mark Stryker
Thanks for this. That's great stuff. I don't know this record at all, so I'll be on the look out. FWIW, I wrote a little about Joe a couple of years ago. https://www.facebook.com/mark.stryker.35/posts/771557693009068 Edited May 24, 2019 by Mark Stryker
Larry Kart
All of the Herbert "Night People" album (except for one quartet track with Wilder) and a lot of other good stuff can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Jazz-Sahib-Complete-SAHIB-SHIHAB/dp/B0013LQPCC/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=sahib+shihab&qid=1558728482&s=music&sr=1-

sgcim
That sounded a lot like Clark Terry. Even that great descending/ascending run he started off with on the break was something you'd associate with CT more than JW. My brother, a CT freak, yelled out , "Clark Terry!", when he was listening to the solo. He was playing all of CT's little 'bends' of pitch on the intervals that CT used them on, he was playing with CT's fluidity and rapidity of thought. I never associated JW with CT, but they must've influenced each other a great deal.
JSngry
I heard it as an imp-less CT, yeah.
Ted O'Reilly
Once again, I reveal my ignorance. What is "imp-less"? Is that to mean "lacking impish-ness"? No imps to be heard, nor elves or sassies? No mischievous sprites? No 'what fools these mortals be'?
