Monk and Lacy

Speaking of working duo’s: this would definitely be one. There are few musicians capable of listening to other musicians like Steve Lacy. His sound would perfectly fit. And of course as mentioned: the Monk repertoire is nothing new to the man :)

Yes I wasn´t Aware of that mid sized band where Lacy played but didn´t solo. But it might have been a Wonderful experience to hear that specific soprano Sound combined with Monks unique piano Sound. And with Lacy as a Monk expert, a Dream Team, too bad it didn´t happen or if it happened it wasn´t recorded.

Anyway, decades ago many Monk fans complained there is too Little recorded evidence of Monk with Trane. Now we have that Wonderful BN Album with that whole concert, Wonderful !

And since we know that Pat Patrick from the Sun Ra Arkestra sometimes played for Monk, I think around 1970, this also might have sounded interesting.

Lacy did join Monk's working band for a quick minute, as documented here (and a few other places, in writing, not record). Somebody, maybe Lacy himself, put it like he popped in, got what he needed, and then popped back out. A very honorable tact.
