"I'm With You: Mark Winkler sings Bobby Troup"

Impacting: August 19 2019

Format(s): Jazz

A popular and prolific songwriter, recording artist and globally renowned performer, Mark Winkler has developed an enduring affinity for the great Bobby Troup. While perhaps best known for his spirited standard "Route 66," the legendary singer, pianist, tunesmisth and master lyricist left behind a deep and wild treasure trove of quirky/playful and heartfelt songs from which Winkler pays homage to in his latest album I'M WITH YOU.

The 12-track collection is a uniaque gathering of freshly re-imagined Troup songs done in Winkler's cool and swinging manner. The project came about when Troup's two daughters, Ronne and Cynnie gifterd Winkler with a box of Troup's personal sheet music and 8 CDs iof Troup tunes.

Featured Musicians include: Kevin Axt/Joe Bagg/Gabe Davis/ Rich Eames/Mark Ferber/ Grant Geissman/ Bob Shppard/Dave Tull/ Anthony Wilson

Produced by Mark Winkler and Dolores Scozzesi

Jazz Times Review

Mark Winkler wanted another bite of the apple, and
Bobby Troup’s zesty book of rhythm patter,
swooning ballads, and novelty numbers provides
plenty of creative nourishment. His second album
devoted to the songs of the jazz-steeped pianist,
songwriter, singer, and actor, I’m With You offers a
welcome reminder of Troup’s sturdy book...each
song on I’m With You gets a thoughtful arrangement
that brings out its particular character.
A prolific Los Angeles songwriter and singer with
rhythmically assured phrasing and a warm, affable
tone, Winkler effectively highlights the strengths of
his fellow tunesmith. He also makes excellent use of
an enviable cast of L.A. players

On the Jazzweek Top 50 for four weeks!

HALLOWEEN JAZZ SINGLE

Do you want something that swings a little bit more than “Monster Mash” or “Thriller” for your radio show? Well, then Mark Winkler’s playful re-write on Bobby Troup’s “Hungry Man (Halloween Version)” is for you. Full of Ghouls, Wolfmen, Jazz and all sorts of mayhem- and it swings.
