Many years ago I saw this documentary film about expatriate American jazz musicians in Europe. I remember brilliant playing by Phil Woods.

Pleased the album includes a bluesman. Two blues expatriates I met in the 70s were Champion Jack (in Manchester) and Memphis Slim (in Paris).

Yeah, that´s it. I have this CD. Very nice done. It was produced by Joachim Ernst Behrend, since he had promised Oscar Pettiford that he will do it, gather as many Americans in Europe as possible. Too bad that Oscar Pettiford had died before it came true.

For a time, before he moved to another "Ha-": :D

Hannover (Germany) - where he lived for a long time up to his death.

When he signed an album for me and Ed Dipple, Champion Jack said, "That's a good one. I made that in Germany".

Of course, the expat thing was very good news for me. Those I saw included:

Lucky Thompson

Dexter Gordon

Johnny Griffin

Ben Webster

Don Byas

Jimmy Woode

Kenny Clarke

Philly Joe

Benny Bailey

Phil Woods
