Jazz musicians who became expatriates

Night Lights show on the topic, which also mentions a couple of books about jazz expatriates:

Paris Noir: African-American Jazz Musicians In France

The program also includes the Art Ensemble of Chicago, which I don't think has been mentioned yet in this thread.

Would anybody care to look at "repatriate" as opposed to "expatriate"?

You mean those who did emigrate ("go expat") and returned home later on?

Red Mitchell (one who hasn't been named among the expats yet either, BTW).

Bobby Burgess

Rolf Ericson

Inez Cavanaugh

Besides the above mentioned I had forgotten to Mention Saxophonist Leo Wright. During the 60´s he was member of Dizzys Quintet and later settled in Europe, Germany, after that in Austria where he died.

Yes, Leo Wright was definitely in these parts. Saw him playing with a local rhythm section at Club 43 in Manchester in about 1967.

Does Alan Broadbent still live in the US, or has he returned to New Zealand these days?

Last I heard, Broadbent had moved from L.A. to NYC.

That accounts for the title of this 2019 release:

So I guess Broadbent is still an expat -- unless he's become a U.S. citizen.

Thanks for that info, HutchFan.  I did not know Alan Broadbent had a new CD out.  Geez, the last one I have from him is his 'Round Midnight release from 2004!

Darius Brubeck lived in Durban, South Africa for many years and then moved to London.  Not sure if that's where he resides today.

Stephane Grappelli lived in England during the war and for several years post-war. Was his final home back in Paris, though?

Jean-Luc Ponty, perhaps?  He lived in the US for a while, but I think (not sure) he is living in France again now.
