He used the same basic pattern, played in a slower tempo, for his intro and groove on Julius Watkins's first Blue Note ten inch LP, on Linda Delia.

It's a drum set adaptation of a toque called "afro-cubano" or "son afro", derived from ceremonial rhythms played on bata drums. Chano Pozo based most of his solo features in the Gillespie orchestra (in which Clarke also played) on this.
