The important thing there was to get the early 2000s RVG reissue that pitch corrected the McMaster 1990ish reissue

Yeah, but that advice wasn't worth much ~1993. :)

Just a "heads up" - the fact that the 1990 CD was off pitch was not well known. In fact, the Penguin Guide of the day rated "Cool Blues" as one of Jimmy's top-rated CDs at the time. It turns out that this pitch problem was why that CD was deleted in the first place.

I have the RVG version.  Tina Brooks plays tenor on the first four cuts.

I'm not the biggest JOS fan, with many of his recordings leaving me cold but Cool Blues is superb. Absolutely love it...

Cuscuna's original liner notes stated "The material from this session was never issued.  The reason was probably not the music, which was excellent, but the fact that it was recorded only in mono at a time when stereo was growing rapidly."

There are some corrections to Colinmce’s list, I’d need to take some time to go over it, but the first item (Donald Byrd) did have a domestic CD release, as did many others. (The CD era began in the mid-80’s, and a lot of stuff came - and went - quickly, easy to miss.)

If the Hoffman Board rumour is correct, there will be a 3LP Tone Poet issue for this one forthcoming. Presumably without alternates?

it's been a while since I played this but recall that the balance and sound quality left a little to be desired.

Cool! I don't play LPs any more, but I have friends who will probably get that.

I visited the Lighthouse on a number of occasions in the late 1990s. A most interesting experience ! Although the layout had changed since its heyday, there was a big old wooden band stage - I recognised its somewhat boomy characteristics from recordings such as this one. Jazz archaeology !

By my count there's an easy 5 LPs worth of material, with no alternates, if they use everything that was on the 3 CD version.
