Since that time other volumes have followed with the current release, “The Latin Side of Horace Silver” including tenor sax great Igor Butman along with special guest, the Grammy-winning Dominican pianist, Michel Camilo. “The great thing about jazz is that nothing is so sacred that it can’t be reinvented and rediscovered,” said Herwig, who goes on to transform Silver’s work through his own love of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. danasgoodstuff
Isn't this kinda department of redundancy department stuff? I mean, Horace was already pretty latin-esque to start with...although sometimes more than others.
Kevin Bresnahan
Herwig's other "latin side" dates have all been very good to great so I will have to look into this one. While I agree that Horace often leaned this way, Herwig's treatments might surprise you.
soulpope
The initial Coltrane and MD homages were excellent, the later one`s not so ....
Milestones
I like the idea of Horace's music played by a 4-man front line and congas. Some of Herwig's Latin stuff reaches 5-star quality. But his more mainstream records--such as New York Breed--are also worth hearing.
