Yes, it was a long time ago. Maybe in the late 80s or early 90s. But Connery was already an old man then. And that added to his charm.

Umberto Eco is a thinking man's Dan Brown. 

It was a good movie, and I enjoyed Connery/Slater, but it was much worse than the book, which is brilliant.

 

Re Umberto Eco and Dan Brown, at some point Eco was asked about The DaVinci Code and he said:

No. In Foucault's Pendulum I wrote the grotesque representation of these kind of people. So Dan Brown is one of my creatures.

I also like the book much better. But the movie is also good.

Although I do get your point, the Bond girls were the perfect fantasy for this 12-15 year old male.
