Dmitry
Over 1000 restaurants have permanently closed in NYC since the lockdown in March. I'm sure quite a few of them presented jazz bands for the pleasure of their patrons. It's a domino effect... BFrank
I was only there a few times, but I liked the room and the sound was very good, too.

Ken Dryden
I only made it to the Jazz Standard 3 or 4 times, but I always had a great time there.
Patrick
Only a few times for me as well. I've really enjoyed Maria Schneider holding court there (w family and friends) during Thanksgiving week.

Most of my neighborhood's bars and coffee shops/small restaurants are done and will not reopen. Some of these were particular favorites that served the neighborhood on a real first-name basis, leaving friends of mine without jobs. Much of this could have been subsidized for survival, but I guess that's another discussion for another thread.
bluesForBartok
Such a great club. Really sad to see it go. I worked for Don Sickler years ago and helped him assemble a couple of shows at the Standard. I remember Billy introducing the band members by saying what subway stop in Brooklyn they lived near. Hmmm...except I couldn't have been there January 19-24, 1999. Did they come back later in the spring?

Hardbopjazz
yeah. NYC, like so many other places was hit real hard.
jcam_44
That’s an incredibly long list. I have seen a few new restaurants open in my area and every time I see it, it shocks me that someone makes that move right now.
Hardbopjazz
Well, when one club closes, another one comes along. The Cutting Room in NYC is now hosting jazz. July 18th was George Coleman and The Rhythm Session. Joanne Brackeen is coming up in a few weeks. But I'll still miss the Jazz Standard. clifford_thornton
Crazy list of places that shut down. Some in Williamsburg I knew well and some of those closed not because of the pandemic, but because of other primary factors.
