As I read this, I wondered if a similar story could have been written by one of the Regattabar's servers and where I would have fit into it. "The guy who always ordered one beer and one San Pellegrino but always asked us to get a big bottle from the other bar". :)

Over 1000 restaurants have permanently closed in NYC since the lockdown in March. I'm sure quite a few of them presented jazz bands for the pleasure of their patrons. It's a domino effect...

absolutely. Most of my neighborhood's bars and coffee shops/small restaurants are done and will not reopen. Some of these were particular favorites that served the neighborhood on a real first-name basis, leaving friends of mine without jobs. Much of this could have been subsidized for survival, but I guess that's another discussion for another thread.

Such a great club. Really sad to see it go.

I worked for Don Sickler years ago and helped him assemble a couple of shows at the Standard. Here are the pamphlets / cards we put together for those gigs:

I was at one of those Billy Higgins shows!  I remember Billy introducing the band members by saying what subway stop in Brooklyn they lived near.

Hmmm...except I couldn't have been there January 19-24, 1999.  Did they come back later in the spring?
