Strange Defective CDs

I just bought a bunch of SteepleChase CDs and started to play the Bob Rockwell Quartet: Shades of Blue (SCCD 31378).

Instead, I heard a swinging big band, even though the CD was labeled correctly. After taking a look at the matrix/runout, I noticed that the typical SCCD catalog number was missing and something else was in its place, DCCD 9420. When I did a search of that number, here's what turned up:

 

I pulled my copy of that very CD and that's what it was. I wonder how many similar defective pressings were shipped before they discovered it?

Years ago a Chief cd of one of my releases played a Bach oratorio.

Sounds like it was the fault of the pressing plant, not of SteepleChase.

FWIW, I still have a copy of Hal Russell''s Generation that plays a Bach Passion. First choice here before Ebay. ;-)

The first CD copy of Steve Lacy/Don Cherry's Evidence I bought had a different album on it. I'm assuming it was another Prestige or OJC family label title, but at the time I couldn't pick it out.
