??? Pre-Bop Blue Note CDs

Ammons/Lewis for sure on Blue Note.  Not sure beyond that, out of my wheelhouse.  Several Mosaic sets, and several PD issues of the material.  The guy whose work I really like from the era is John Hardee.

Albert Ammons & Mead Lux Lewis - The First Day - Blue Note CD 1992

How many are there, and what are they?

Same here. I want to know, since this is a period of BN I'm particularly interested in and that's a bit underrepresented. But I think it's already been explained above. I have all of the above, except the Port of Harlem boxset, Reminiscing, The BN Jazzmen and the Mosaics. Plus some Japanese CDs that were reissued in 1999 for BN's 60th (mostly Bechet, Quebec, Port of Harlem and Hardee) and I don't know if anything else. Plus I also have the Boogie Woogie Select, but that's not BN and some Bechet CDs. I'm wondering what I'm missing that has been released.

Mosaic covered pretty much all the pre-bop BNs in its earlier days

#103 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis (2 CDs or 3 LPs)

#108 The Complete Recordings of The Port of Harlem Jazzmen (1 LP)

#109 The Complete Edmond Hall/James P. Johnson/Sidney De Paris/Vic Dickenson Blue Note Sessions (4 CDs or 6 LPs)

#110 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Sidney Bechet (4 CDs or 6 LPs)

#114 The Complete Art Hodes Blue Note Sessions (4 CDs or 5 LPs)

#115 The Benny Morton/Jimmy Hamilton Blue Note Swingtets (1 LP)

#119 The Pete Johnson/Earl Hines/Teddy Bunn Blue Note Sessions (1 LP)

#132 The Complete Blue Note Recordings of George Lewis (3 CDs or 5 LPs)

There were also the Ike Quebec and John Hardee sets, but I don't know if those would classify as "pre-Bop" or not!

Thanks

Was just going to ask about how much of this stuff Mosaic covered

Not at all wanting to go down the Mosaic Collector road for this stuff. Have some already, not going to go crazy to get the rest. Same with the BN label CDs, (mostly) reasonable prices have been found for the items I want. Thanks again for all the answers here.

The Mosaics are a total of 20-22 CDs (not all of them were on CD). The Blue Notes are about half as many, not counting the 4 CD Hot Jazz set, which overlaps with them.

Blue Note CDs:

Albert Ammons & Meade Lux Lewis 1 CD

Reminiscin' - 1 CD

Edmond Hall - 2 CDs

Blue Note Jazzmen - 2 CDs

Sidney Bechet Hits - 1 CD

Sidney Bechet w. Davison - 1 CD

Port of Harlem Jazzmen - 1 CD

George Lewis -  1 CD ?

Swingtets - 1 CD

Hot Jazz box set - 4 CDs

That makes 15.

George Lewis -  1 CD ?

Yes, I have a George Lewis CD out of the same domestic (US, that is) BN 60th anniversary batch the Swingtets (perhaps the best of 'em all, together with Profoundly Blue by Edmond Hall and which features Charlie Christian) album is from.

Everything I see above is what I know. What I would be interested in is what percentage of the total pre-bop recordings on BN do those CDs encompass?

That's a good question. It does seem to me like I remember reading *somewhere* from Michael that Mosaic had "completed" the pre-bop BNs with its releases, but my memory on that is far from sure.

I remember the same comment from Cuscuna.
