Paul Bryant

My latest discography on organist Paul Bryant, whom most may know from his recordings with Curtis Amy, is now online:

What do you think about his playing? I like it, or I wouldn't have compiled the disco. I love his blues and gospel touches that he always uses in unexpected ways with great dynamics. Here are the covers of all the LPs he was on:

Thanks Mike for making this a separate topic, Bryant's disco was short, relatively, but he was a really nice player. The recordings with Amy are best for me. I recall not loving the one with Jim Hall as much - maybe a factor of wanting that booting tenor in there instead. I should revisit. As I mentioned in my response to the original post, the Fantasy LPs aren't quite as good, IMO, but Plas helps a lot on the one with him. The fact that I am talking more about his sidemen/co-leaders shouldn't indicate I don't enjoy his organ playing cause I definitely do.

Thanks for the link to the obit, I had no idea that he had kept playing for so long after his time in the spotlight. Makes me wish someone had recorded a local appearance or two.

And I really, really hope that tape exists of that TV performance with Curtis Amy.

Big :tup from me, Mike.
