Pim
That is a pity. Same age as my father. R.I.P. Time for a reissue of the Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockey's.

Rabshakeh
He never seemed to get the recognition that his peers and sidemen got, which is strange, because everything about Mr. Moondoc was great. I'd sooner listen to his albums than many of those who did make it.
kh1958
Saw Jameel Moondoc and the Jus' Grew Orchestra one time at Fez in the Time Cafe. Bern Nix on guitar. Terrific band and music.
Kevin Bresnahan
Got to see Jemeel a couple of times in Boston at the ICA's old Boylston Street performance hall. Memorable shows for sure.

Was able to see him live a number of times, including with the Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys band. By the way, that album is slated to be reissued as an LP set fairly soon. RIP. mjazzg
I never listened to nearly as much of his music as I suspect I should have. 'Revolt...' was highly rated in the Penguin Guide I think but impossible to find by the time I realised i should do. Maybe the reissue will allow me to remedy that. Have you got more information? I will definitely pick that up. The cd version is very hard to find these days. It’s one of those records I feel a little bit ashamed about for not owning it.
