Upcoming MOSAICS (resuming)

Recommended Posts

Unless there is extra material.. which might be doubtful, these sound like " Let's go in the studio and blow" sessions .. although I was surprised by the extras that Mosaic found for the Claytons.

This being verve.. even if there is it may fall by the wayside

( like Willow Weep for Me on the Sweets and Buddy album)

There were 9 LPs, I think that it should all just about fit onto 3 CD's

There was one tune, Stompin' at the Savoy that was split onto both sides of the LP.. though the later British reissue restitched it together and put it all on one side..though the splice can be heard.

verve should have the orginal tapes and be able to avoid this.

Were they all 10-inchers? Or how come you think 9 LPs fit onto 3 CDs?

No, they were 12" LPs, however as I mentioned above, Stompin, on the USA issue was split over two sides of an LP. The British version, or reissue of it, fit it , unedited, onto one side of an album.. I would have to time it to be sure, but it lasts less than 30 mins.

And as another example.. Jam Session #5 was a 12' with one track per side

Jammin for Clef

Rose Room

These are on the new Ocium issue and both time out at just a little over 13 mins.

The Basie sets.. #3 & #4 was 2 12" LPs, one track per side

Apple Jam just shy of 12 mins

Lady Be Good about 8 mins

Blues for Count.. About 15 mins

Ballad Medeley about 13 mins

So you can see, that the whole set should just about fit on 3 CDs

Back then, there seemed to be no problem about putting out short playing time LPs.

To be fair, the early LPs did not support the close to 28 mins that came later..

But .. well verve is verve......

I love Dinah Washington. Invested in the complete Mercury CD boxes. And it was worth it.

Not sure about those Roulette sessions! I got a couple of the LPs, listened to them and never got back to them. Not that they were bad but they did not compare with the Mercury stuff.

I only have the CD with the Benny Carter-arranged dates from her Roulette output (well, and only two Mercurys...), but I think that one's quite good!

why so glum on keynote, chum? the same co. has "legal" u.s. rights to that stuff as they do the mulligan concert band, tal farlow, jazztet... why would the legacy of harry lim be any different? esp. when all of the keynotes are p.d. in europe.

errol garner, on the other hand, like an ahmad jamal, is another story but i believe keynote is gonna happen is mosaic still wants it too.

clem (seer)

I CDR'd my Keynote LP set onto 80 min CD's. It took 15. That means if Mosaic ever do it , the cost would be around $250.00

Unless they do it in volumes like the Commodores.

So start saving.. just in case.

O du, Geliebte meiner siebenundzwanzig Sinne, ich

liebe dir!

Hallo, deine roten Kleider, in weiße Falten zersägt.

Rot liebe ich Anna Blume, rot liebe ich dir! - Du

Love him! There was an exhibition recently in Basel, on Schwitters, as well as one on Schwitters and Jean/Hans Arp. Great stuff!

I have an excellent partial recording of the Ursonate by German actress Marianne Bernhardt. They state in the liner notes that the Schwitters estate never allows for complete performances! Are they afraid someone does it better or people will not by the Wergo CD anymore? One might suspect they want the work to be heard the way he intended it to be!

Is the HatArt recording a complete one?
