The OGJB quartet with Graham Haynes, Joe Fonda and Barry Altschul also made some interesting music. I was able to hear them live several times and the music was never less than provocative.

Ah wow, glad I got to see them a number of times over the years. I can't be in the city this weekend but I'm sure it will be a great send off.

I guess at least there's the webcast (a la Phish).

Damn - I was hoping to get to see them one more time. They were fun to see/hear live. But then again, Lake is 79, Workman is 84 & Cyrille is 82, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

The followup to Bamako is very good too.

He’s being honored at the Vision Festival but not playing an instrument. Does anyone know if there is a reason for that?

I'm only guessing here, but he is going to be 80 in September. He might not be able to play like he wants to these days so he may have decided to retire from playing.

I plan to be retired well before I am 79. :)

Most jazz musicians don't retire until they're dead or physically can't play a solo longer than 20 seconds.
