Late period Bud Shank

9 posts in this topic

I know that Bud Shank's style is meant to have changed in later years, but I'm not sure that I ever heard any of his music from that time.

What do you think are the stand out records from his later career?

Here are a few Bud Shank albums I can recommend. There are others also, but I wanted to just give you a short list to consider.

Bud Shank - I Told You So - Candid

Bud Shank - The Doctor Is In - Candid

Bud Shank and Lou Levy - Lost In The Stars - Fresh Sound

Bud Shank meets The Rhythm Section - By Request - Milestone

Crystal Comments is interesting with the two keyboards. Mays on P. Broadbent on EP.

Crystal Comments would be my first choice too.

I also dig Heritage (Concord), which is a more traditional alto-plus-rhythm date.

I like it but too electric for my father who played with Shank in a high school band.  We saw BS a couple of times in DC and my father and BS reminisced between sets.
