Hardbopjazz Posted March 26, 2004 Report Share Posted March 26, 2004 Every jazz label in the 50’s and 60’s had their house musicians. The one that comes to mind is James Spaulding. He was on a lot of sessions for Blue Note in the 60's. It wasn't till the 70's where he did his own thing. Thornel Schwartz. Not exactly on point but certain clubs also had their house musicians. Monk, for example, was the house pianist for Mintons and Tadd Dameron for the Royal Roost a/k/a the Metrolitan (B)opera House.
