Thelonious Monk - Live At The It Club

I'm giving some Monk a try after intentionally passing him by for as long as I've been into jazz. I may just be starting to get him. I found this one new/sealed/delivered for $7.99 so I couldn't pass it up. This comes along with some other new Monks I've been picking up on the cheap. Brilliant Corners ($5.00), Genius of Modern Jazz vol. 1 and the Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall from BMG for $2.79 each.

Wayne Shorter - Second Genesis

This fills a gap in my early Shorter CDs.

Joy of joy's!! In the discount rack, for .99 cents, in mint condition: Irma Victoria and the Hatebox Experience "Phantasmagoria--The second coming" Mind and Media label.

astounding Danish female "singer". Quite disturbing and fresh. I have several other CDs by her, but only had a tape, provided to me by Boyd Rice, of this fab CD.

Check her out! Mos def not for everybody. She died in the early 2000's. UNIQUE!!! :tup

You will be very happy with that purchase. Its was also a steal at 7.99. The Charlie Rouse fan club meets on Thursday nights.

That's good to hear, I'm looking forward to listening to it. I have Rouse's "Takin' Care Of Business" and enjoy it quite a bit. I have little doubt I could easily be a member of the fan club. "Live At The It Club" is just part of a handful of Monk that is the first wave of his music for me. I'll live with them for a while and see if I want to get more. From the sound samples I've heard of other Monk works, the Rouse years would be the first selections in the second wave.

When it abruptly became apparent that BMG/Your Music would no longer carry Sony/BMG, one of the few of their discs I was disappointed not to have ordered was Sade's last CD, Lovers Live, which was the only one of hers that I didn't have.

Yesterday I found it in a store for $6.84 plus tax, so I picked it up.

Decided to get the Ben Webster Dig Ben box set discussed a bit on the Storyville thread. Also ordered something called Nigeria Disco.

Thought seriously about getting the May Conns at CD Universe (all of them look pretty great)* but decided to wait until they straighten out the price.

* I was looking through my Hutcherson LPs. I was sure I had Head On, but I think I must only have Cirrus which has sort of a similar cover. So that makes me even more excited about Head On (of course with the bonus tracks I would have gotten it anyway).

I couldn't make it down to Amoeba saturday for Record Store Day but my local shop was having a sale so I pick up the following vinyl.

The Abercrombie and Towner is ok, the Albert King is pretty good but both the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac and the Andrew Hill are excellent.

Enjoyed the heck out of both of those.
