Just downloaded from CD Baby (didn't know they did downlads)

stittholloway.jpg

Sonny Stitt & Red Holloway - Legends of the saxophone

Recorded in Oct 1979, live at Christos, San Francisco, by Harley White Sr, the bass player on the gig. The others are Ed Kelly (p) & Smiley Winters (d).

Jolly nice stuff though perhaps a .flac would have been better. CD Baby lets you choose.

MG

PS here's the address for this

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stittholloway

It's only $9.99, whichever format you choose.

Bought a used copy at one of the Disk Union's in Tokyo, complete with box and booklet, for 1800 yen or just below $18.

That is definitely what I consider a bargain! Must have been mispriced.

One of my favorite Mosaic sets! :tup

Just ordered 3 of the Complete Columbia Albums box sets from amazon UK sellers: Woody Shaw, the first Weather Report and the Byrds. With the increased shipping costs through Amazon, the box sets are an even better deal.

This week saw the start of the sales season here.

Had skipped the event for the past couple of years but tried my luck this time.

Usually this would start with the sales at the Virgin Megastore on the Champs-Elysees but the store closed last month, so I visited the FNAC Montparnasse store instead. It was worth the visit!

For a grand total of €44 I got the following CDs:

- Sonny Red 2CD (FreshSound)

- Tete Montoliu 'Piano for Nuria' (Saba Japan)

- Randy Weston 'Zulu' (Mar)

- Kenyon Hopkins '4 Classic Albums' (Real Gone Jazz)

- Anita O'Day 'Trav'lin' Light' (FreshSound)

- Anita O'Day 'Meets the Rhythm Section' (FreshSound)

- Elmore James 3CD 'Classic Early Recordings' (Ace)

£13.50 for a new CD. Not bad considering it's out of print.

Kasse Mady - Kela - Syllart a reissue of 'Koulandjan Kela' and 'Fode' on 1 CD. My copy of 'Koulandjan Kela' was fucked, so I was glad to see this.

0001742200_500.jpg

Oumou Sangare - En tournee Europeenne - Ben BD

There's a LOT more power in this than in her early recordings. I've been missing something, as she's matured.

0000708134_500.jpg

Mamou Sidibe - Kanakoroto - SMD Sega

Another Wassoulou singer who's improved with age.

Youssou%20N%20Dour%20Bercy%202005%20CD%2

Youssou ndour - Bercy 2005 - Jololi

Youssou ndour - Bercy 2008 - Jololi

Coumba Gawlo - Le album live 23 ans de succes - Sabar

Not live. It's a 2 CD set, but CD2 sounds and appears to be the same as CD 1 ...

0000727314_500.jpg

Ganda Fadiga - 2008 vol 3 - CK7

Tata Bambo Kouyate - Aou bouna - FCA - no image on web

now on to K7s; the boss of Lampe Fall was good enough to give me this lot of oldies for nothing!

GawloAkDiegoK7.jpg

Coumba Gawlo & Souleymane Faye - Gawlo & Diego - Sabar - I've been after this since it came out in 2003 and I've never seen it. Mr Fall must have had it all that time, though. I must have just missed it because it was filed with the cover facing the wall.

300x300.jpgcover.jpgThione Seck - Orientissimo vols 1 & 2 - Syllart - vol 2 isn't on the web, but looks like the CD.

Amadou Sodia - Touma sera - Syllart

Amadou-Sodia-Ca-Va-Se-Savoir.jpg

Amadou Sodia - Ca va se savoir - Syllart

Wonderful contrast in that photo! Amadou Sodia is a singer and bolon player I've gone to sleep on. Glad I've caught up at last. I'll get some more next year, or maybe sooner...

Now some K7s; these ones weren't free, but they are all very cheap

c14a82ae-447b-4438-8bb9-aeb207988402.jpg

Kerfala Kante - L'oiseau de Sankara - Super Selection - this is the pic of the CD. A replacement for my buggered K7. Didn't realise I could get a CD of it. But not vol 2, it appears; good job my K7 of vol 2 is OK :)

Fode Baro - Foufafou - AMC (apparently there are pirate CDs of this floating about in Mali and this is the pic)

Camara Aboubacar - Couma - ATA Audio Visual - no image on web

0001493676_350.jpg

Djeneba Diakite - Makossa - CK7

Camara Aboubacar - Komi touma - CK7 - no image on web. Never seen it before, but one of M Camara's earliest; CK7 008 must be from 1989.

SekoubaWarasso.jpg

Sekouba Bambino - Warasso - Super Selection (CK7) - Most of this K7 is included in the CD 'Ambiance ballon', but not all. One for fans. I love his football records!

Mamadou Doumbia alias Percey - An 2000 - Mali K7 (CK7) (This is the Mamadou Doumbia who used to sing with Super Biton.) No image on web.

3610150207364_600.jpg

61932769.jpg

Ganda Fadiga vols 1 & 2 - CK7. Replacements for two very well played K7s.

All this shopping is exhausting! Called it quits for the day and returned the following day to Kalitex, another Malian specialist, for a couple more CDs

u3610150417336.jpg

Maniam Damba - Maramba - BKS

kande-sy-foule-109084058.jpg

Kande Sy - Foule - CK7

Phew! Now, when am I going to find time to listen to all these?
