Oops. It's Urs Leimgruber/Joëlle Léandre/Fritz Hauser - No Try No Fail

Picture didn't show here either.

I am so glad you will be able to experience one of the very special free improvisation recordings of the 1990's.

I couldn't see the image either but discovered if you right click on the "?" (where the image should appear) and click either "Open Image in New Tab" or New Window, you'll be able to see the posted image. I'm a Leimgruber fan also; have a lot of his Hat recordings, stuff with OM, etc. but not the one you picked up, which I know is a good done. Eventually.......

HA! I've checked Ebay, Discogs and everything in between for this album nearly every day for the last 3 years. Never once seen it, not even for absurd prices. Somehow, two copies turned up on Ebay simultaneously and here we go. Now for my next great White Whale, Joe McPhee's Songs & Dances...

.... everything comes to he who waits.......

Muhal Richard Abrams - Young at Heart / Wise in Time [1969, Delmark]

Very happy with this find in the local record shop, as this is usual not the kind of Jazz (i.e. Blue Note/Impulse/Atlantic etc reissues) they have in stock.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, after a pig of a week - the week before last - when I had to reload my operating system (Internet Explorer stopped working) and put everything back together again, THEN found I couldn't get Access because Microsoft had voided the product key they gave me and corresponded with a Microsoft guy in Russia (and still haven't got it sorted, but looks like I'll have to buy another copy, as Microsoft are a load of thieving gypsy bastards), went off to Paris.

A little trip to Paris always makes me feel good :)

Of course, I hit the record shops in the Goutte d'Or and Paris Jazz Corner and was pleased to see prices coming down - PJC had 20% off everything until 25 July! So I bought enough to nearly cripple myself lugging my bag up and down the stairs at St Pancras and Paddington (I went by Eurostar as there are no longer flights from Cardiff to Paris (!!!).

So, from in the Goutte d'Or, I got some CDs

Back in the day I bought the Bruckner 7th by Eichhorn and the Linz Orchestra. I could only afford one at the time and never managed to get any more and now they have now been out of print for a long time. Fantastic recording though.

So I wonder if this is a lie or not, but I hope it isn't.

Anyway, had to order it to find out.

DKV Trio - Baraka

AALY + Ken Vandermark - Live at the Glenn Miller Café

Italian Instabile Orchestra - Skies of Europe

Vinny Golia/Joëlle Léandre/Ken Filiano - Haunting The Spirits Inside Them

Some nice music there. Is that the original "Baraka" or the new reissue?

I'm guessing original. It was from eBay.

Italian Instabile Orchestra - Skies of Europe

First track from the AALY disc - about 3 minutes in, listen for the screaming from the audience when they kick in real strong from a sax duo break. Fwiw I scream with them. I'm digging it out this weekend.

Did you notice they cover Ayler's Ghosts?? It's pretty damn dark and almost gruesome.

Very very intense and exciting. How much you pay? $20?

It's worth double that

Love that you sprung for Skies of Europe. The first of the two tracks is a classic performance with an incredible theme. The grand orchestra at their most Italian and with a groove here and there to boot. Hope u enjoy

Friday and Saturday:

Ellington — Recollections of the Big Band Era
Teri Thornton — I’ll Be Easy To Find
Charleston Chasers — (not the original group but an utterly awful ricky-tick English revival band; my mistake)
Art Lande — Shift in the Wind (a flier because I recall Ethan Iverson saying on his blog that Lande was a very interesting, unjustly neglected figure; haven’t listened to it yet)
Earl Wild/Liszt — Piano Extravaganzas on Operatic Themes (an RCA Record Club “exclusive” from 1962)
Schola Antiqua — Plainchant & Polyphony from Medieval Germany (Nonesuch). New music to me, darn interesting, 1974 performances don't sound dated to me in a realm where styles of interpretation probably have changed over the years, but I’m no expert.
Gene Krupa Plays Gerry Mulligan Arrangements — very early Mulligan charts are interesting, performances (especially the solo work) by 1958 NYC studio band are rather generic.
Brahms Violin Concerto — Francescatti/Ormandy (had high hopes for this because I’ve been getting into Francescatti and have enjoyed everything I’ve heard from him so far, but he seems rather detached here)
All of the above from two nearby Half-Price Books stores, most on LP, none more that $1, some at 25 cents.
