eMusic downloads

Adam Kolker - Reflections (Sunnyside, 2011)
Inbar Fridman - Time Quartet Project (Origin, 2013)
Pieter Hurst - mirages [opus 13, 1985]
Pieter Hurst - Piano Mobile [opus 6, 1981, Live]
Michelson Morley - Strange Courage (Babel, 2016)

The Adam Kolker is excellent. :tup

After listening via YT, I decided to order this John Lewis solo-piano CD:

51OHNAghCiL._SS400.jpg

Afternoon in Paris (Dreyfus)

I also ordered Chet Baker's Peace on LP (Enja, German pressing!) from Dusty Groove:

61y-tTzZEPL._SS400.jpg

I went for this LP for David Friedman's contributions as much I did for Chet's.  I've really been enjoying Friedman's music lately.

Looking forward to spinning this on my 'table, hearing the improved sonics -- since I now only have it as an MP3 download.

Yesterday, I made a quick run up to McKay's in Chattanooga.  I brought these home:

CDs
Dave Brubeck Quartet - 25th Anniversary Reunion (A&M Horizon)
Joey Calderazzo - Haiku (Marsalis Music)
Either/Orchestra - The Half-Life of Desire (Accurate)
Ella Fitzgerald - Newport Jazz Festival: Live at Carnegie Hall, 1973 (Columbia)
Frank Foster & the Loud Minority (Mainstream/Jazz Heritage)
Sheila Jordan - Portrait of Sheila (Blue Note)
Bill Mays/Ray Drummond - One to One (DMP)
Carmen McRae - Carmen Sings Monk (RCA Bluebird)
Bennie Wallace - Talk of the Town (Enja)

LPs
Tim Berne - Fulton Street Maul (Columbia)
Jack Walrath - Neohippus (Blue Note)

McKay's is fun. You never know what you'll find. And their prices are usually good too.

Last CD I bought was the MFSL of Some Day My Prince Will Come (MFCD 828) from 1990 with the original Teo Macero mix. Nothing wrong with the Mark Wilder remix, but there is a clear difference. Good to have alongside all the other more recent MFSL Miles Davis SACDs with original mixes.

Latest Jazz Messengers order:

  • Anthony Braxton & Miya Masaoka - Duo (DCWM) 2013; Braxton paired with a 21 string koto sounds real good. Sample here.
  • Orrin Evans - #knowingishalfthebattle; With Kurt Rosenwinkel and Kevin Eubanks.

Much of it (if not all) was reissued on Black Lion and related labels, both cd and vinyl. Great stuff. Wish I had kept the box.

Decided against the Chick Webb / Ella Fitzgerald Mosaic as I have never been much enarmoured by Ella's voice and vocal sytlistics and ordered the two Chick Webb CD's from HEP instead.

Does anyone know why Subject to Change was never released on cd?  It's not even available to download despite the fact that the two other About Time releases are.
