4th item.

It was in stock last week when I ordered it, so put your name on the list and watch it come back. That's how they seem to do it.

Listened to it 4x in a row last night. Was kinda indifferent at first, but it kept getting better each time, especially when it dawned on me, halfway through the second time, that Braith wasn't so much playing Braithophone (although there are two "pure" tenor features on here) like a saxophone as much as he was playing it like a slice-and-dice Monk-ian piano. That's when the groove really kicked in.

Your mileage may vary, of course, but if you dig Braith's unique musical concept (and that concept extends FAR beyond just the two horn thing), I think you'll want to check this one out.

Thanks for the rec, Jim... I'll keep an eye out for that one. Anybody who's sitting on whether or not to buy the BN recordings better act fast, by the way... they're going OOP.

I used to have this release, then rather stupidly sold it in a fit of financial panic befoer the turn of the milennium. IIRC, it is RATHER much different from Braith's 60's recordings, but, as Jim notes, in totally fascinating ways.

Isn't the drummer on this one Jimmy Lovelace?

Lace plays on two cuts. Elsewise it's Mark Johnson, w/Tarik Shah on bass, and Ronnie Matthews (in QUITE good form, btw) on piano.

Put my email on there so I can get it when it comes in stock. Very cool, thanks Jim.

I didn't like Braith at first - sounded like a comb and paper, I thought - but I have gotten the hang of his sound, and am now a fan. I think "Blue John" made it click for me. After hearing that a few times, I went back to the BN 2 CD set (which I purchased out of a sense of obligation after they stuck their necks out and issued it in response to a lot of requests) and enjoyed that. If you don't have that, I'd recommend it. Of course, there are always the TOCJs, and there are no extra tracks on the domestic. smile.gif
