Japanese imports, both. $20 or so bucks a pop, About 60 minutes worth of music combined. That's rougly 67 cents a minute. A long-distance call to Japan may very well cost less, I dunno...

But damn fine music it is, especcially the under-30-minutes COLLATES. DAMN fine music.

If American Verve ever issues this stuff responsibly, I'm there. But until they do, BURN, BABY, BURN!

I've never heard Collates, but I've been enjoying Swing's the Thing from an lp for some time. . . and it is a fantastic session!

If only Mosaic would do a set on Verve labels Jac!

I loved what I heard from COLLATES on the Verve FLYING HOME Jacquet compilaton... I know his entire output for Verve may not be up to that standard, but I still wouldn't mind an Illinois Verve Mosaic.

What's the view here on the recently released Desert Winds (although it's technically not a Verve). I've been debating whether I should get that.

GET IT! As mentioned on another thread, sort of a "Midnight Blue" with standards, an excellent lp/cd!
Brad
Thanks for the rec. It's on my very short list.

Desert Wind is a fine date IMO, and righteously priced also (I got mine for 20% off with a Borders coupon, I think the price before discount was 9.99). I remember picking up a couple of Jacquet Cadets as cutouts in the 70's but I never saw this particular date.

I don't usually think about minutes per dollar, but Swing's the Thing is a fine record, with a great version of "Harlem Nocturne" on it.
