Was thinking about this the other day as I worked on The Big Bands... obviously Ellington & Herman come to mind, as well as Basie and Rich (maybe not so obviously for some folks happy.gif )... what others? For me, Gerald Wilson and the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band... Clarke-Boland... Don Ellis... Fischer... who am I leaving out?

Not a working band, but Gil Evans.

Sonny Criss's album Sonny's Dream is a fine one. Again, not a working band.

How is the Duke Pearson orchestrated stuff?

I didn't care for the Wnyton Kelly one with Jimmy Cobb, Kenny Burrell and Paul Chambers, Comin In The Back Door. I didnt hear a guitar in the whole album BTW.
Daniel A
