He was right about the ubiquitous uncritical use of vibrato. I have many recordings he conducted, and saw him live with London Classical Player with the 3rd and 4th Brahms Sympjhonies. He way the first to have metronome markings in the liner notes. R I.P. Many thanks your pioneering work.

An (italian) guide to classic jazz
4969 replied to 4969's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
It's on my to-read list! I'm currently reading "History of Jazz" by Ted Gioia (simply wonderful!), which I use to update all my entries. If I could recommend another excellent Italian book (written by Giorgio Lombardi, the guy who introduced concerts at the jazz club in Genoa, my hometown), it's "New Orleans Chicago New York," a magnificent history of the origins of jazz. Thanks for the recommendation, I really appreciated it. ciao! -

October 2004 Connoisseur Release (Proposed)
Holy Ghost replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Re-issues
I did the same. It was nice to RVG the first round of Connoisseurs (Components and Empty Foxhole excluded) but I kept a few Conns over RVG treatment, e.g. McLean's Destination Out! (sounded good to me). I'm too, a fan of the BN 10'' Connies series and just added the Foster/Wallington set (thank you, John!) to that amazing batch; only missing the Gil Melle 2CD set, but I have a TOCJ copy of Patterns in Jazz, so I feel I have them all. 😁 -
Incredible!

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.
gvopedz replied to EKE BBB's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The armadillo costume never goes out of style. Keith Emerson, rest in peace. -
It was a great gig at The Hexagon, Birmingham when you played tracks from the album. I'll be ordering at some stage to listen again. Andy

I'm picky enough to want the normally-aspirated 283 V8 with a PowerGlide 2-speed automatic. The fuel-injection system was a PITA to maintain and keep working just right as it was mechanically actuated and needed constant adjustment.

Haven't played this version in quite some time. . .not the best but the music is so timelessly incredible. Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" 50th Anniversary box set edition, disc 1, the album proper.
