Yeah, I think people are getting hung up on perceived similarities between "used goods" and the secondary art market, in which the object such as a painting is unique. Used goods can be rare or valuable for a variety of reasons but are not the same as, say, a Frank Stella work for which his estate could/should receive a percentage on an auction sale.

Here is a two-part interview of NYC Hot Club’s Matthew Rivera: The second video goes into the record collection and the audio equipment (Steve “The Audiophiliac” Gutenberg being an audiophile).

In theory, labor always need representation. It's human nature to look for free stuff, or close to it. But it's also a human need to get a fair price in return for one's labor. I would think that a law standardizing a minimum royalty rate would take care of that. Of course, the devil is in the details....

This is an older article but serves as a good primer: https://hyperallergic.com/153681/an-illustrated-guide-to-artist-resale-royalties-aka-droit-de-suite/ and more here: https://www.copyrightlaws.com/droit-de-suite/ I can't imagine the US in its current state of affairs adopting the concept nationally but it's promising that it is applied in the EU on some level, as well as in California (though I'm not sure if the CA law is still in effect).

This is a very nice recording. I am going to see Bruce in concert this Friday with saxophonist Kirk MacDonald ( in Sydney, Nova Scotia).

The Red Sox have sucked me back in, so I am sure they will resume sucking soon enough. -
In a perfect world all those Tito Rodriguez TV shows would be collated and put in a deluxe box set (if they exist to that extent). There's some gold there. .

This is one of my favorite Monk Quartet albums. Especially outstanding is the track on Disc 2 "Misterioso". It features some truly amazing solos from both Charlie Rouse and Monk.
-
Thanks. I'll check it out. I can hear that. They're both coming out of Coltrane -- like nearly everyone was back then.
