PCD5621 Rhoda Scott - Hey! Hey! Hey!/Live at the Key Club</p><p>
</p><p>
I’ve included a lot more stuff, because the Legends of Acid Jazz series was simply a continuation of a programme that Fantasy started in 1977 with the issue of Gene Ammons’ “Organ combos”. And continued after the series had been discontinued. The numbers of the Acid Jazz series slot in nicely, as you see. Acid Jazz was simply a marketing tool used when convenient, then dropped, when it no longer commanded any premium. Fantasy simply rebranded its organ reissue programme – whether or not each individual issue was Acid Jazz (a term which generally refers to jazz albums made under the influence of James Brown’s development of Funk).</p><p>
</p><p>
I’ve also included 3 Milestone issues, as well as a few non-organ issues, all of which seem relevant to me. Also relevant, and although they’re deleted, copies are bound to be lurking around of the Ace BGP issues (which weren’t issues in the US) that I’ve listed.</p><p>
</p><p>
It seems to me that it doesn’t matter if you don’t like the funky stuff; this programme was a marvellous achievement for Fantasy in my view (of course, I’m a fan). And it reflects (not without a few gaps, of course) Prestige’s absolute pre-eminence in Soul Jazz.</p><p>
</p><p>
I’m not going to give y’all a rundown of what’s good here. Suffice it to say that I have every one of these except the Trudy Pitts (and I have one of the LPs).</p><p>

<p>I'm purchasing a Hammond SK2 organ soon which will replaced my XK3 / XK System on most of my gigs. I'll be doing a detailed review after posting some first impressions. I'm also getting the XPK-200L bass pedals. I will most likely run it through my Leslie 3300 on most gigs but might do some smaller jobs with the internal Leslie. I will certainly test it through the 3300, with it's internal sim, and with the Neo Instrument Ventilator.</p><p>

More soon!</p><p>

	I've had an SK2 for several years now and have loaded Jim's '54 C3 tonewheel sets JA54B1 and JA54B2. I have several sets of calibration data for the actual hammond tonewheel organs I'd like to try. The custom tonewheels take Level, Low Pass, High Pass and Resonance parameters for each of the 96 tonewheels. That's a lot of data to enter by hand 1 parameter at a time if I want to try multiple sets. It would be much easier to generate a data file, like JA54B1 and JA54B2, on my computer and then load it into the SK2 via the USB port. To do that I need to know the data file format. These files have a .TWL extension and I assume it is a Hammond file format specific to the SK organs. (SK1/SK2 may be different than SKX.) Does anyone know anything about this file format? I sent an email to Hammond asking about the format but haven't received a response. I can't believe it's proprietary code since it's just a data file, though they may be sensitive about any handshaking.

	Hi
</p>

<p>
	Bonjour j'ai un "Viscount Legend live" que j'utilise avec une "Leslie 122" via une pédale combo. Je suis assez content mais j'ai écouté le son du "Legend One" qui me semble bien supérieur je crois que c'est le même moteur que le "Legend soul".  Ce que je recherche c'est la meilleure émulation du vibrato chorus à scanner que j'ai sur mon "Vrai Hammond M100". Le vibrato sur le "legend live" est loin d'être bon!  Est-ce que vous pensez  qu'il est meilleur sur le "Legend one"?
</p>

<p>
	Je ne suis pas intéressé par les autres sons du "Legend One" qui me semblent  peu intéressants et pas authentiques à part le son de synthé analogique.
</p>

<p>
	J'ai un" Rhodes Mark 2" à la maison que j'utilise avec un vieux "TWIN Réverb" , c'est inégalable. Le seul clavier qui s'approche un peu du" Rhodes" reste le "Crumar seven" que j'utilise parfois

	I was listening to Soul Groove by Johnny Griffin and Matthew Gee and found it quite fascinating to listen to Big John and Hank Jones playing organ on the same record. Of course Patton lays down the grease as always, but it is very interesting to hear Hanks soft touch translated to organ in comparison. I really enjoy his melodic playing and I find it to be a nice change of pace from the likes of Big John and the other soul organ grinders.
</p>

<p>
	There seems to be an old thread on organ players playing piano, but I can seem to find any reference to piano players playing organ. Id love to hear of other examples pianists dippin' their toes in the grease bucket and what y'all think about their playing.

	<font color="#050505">I have a Hammond XK-3c and I'm having trouble adjusting the internal Leslie sim parameters - the changes I make do not persist after I turn the organ off. I have heard that I'm supposed to "record the parameters to the Cabinet type," but I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know what that means. Do I find the Cabinet type (which is easy) and then save it, somehow(?), before adjusting other Leslie parameters? Or do I treat the Cabinet type as just another parameter, however one that must always be reset (first) whenever I reset other Leslie parameters, then save everything to a Combination Preset? (I don't have this problem with other parameters such as Reverb, Click, etc.)</font><br />

<p>Back in the sixties, as I got more and more interested in Soul Jazz, and organists in particular, the notion that Jimmy Smith was the one and only great organist and that all the others were weak imitators was prevalent in critical circles. To me, as I listened to Freddie Roach, Baby Face Willette, John Patton and others – even R&amp;B organists like Dave ‘Baby’ Cortez, Booker T and Bill Doggett – that was simply wrong thinking. Those people didn’t play like Jimmy Smith – they played like themselves. To see them as pale plagiarists seemed to me to be just lazy; as if the critics couldn’t be bothered to listen to anyone else playing an instrument that they usually admitted to not liking much, if at all.</p><p>
</p><p>
As I learned more, I found that many of the organists I liked had roots in music that was pre-Jimmy Smith. And I got interested in this.</p><p>
</p><p>
Some years back, Clem suggested I put a discography of the jazz organists of this period together. That’s too boring – to do, as well as to read – so I thought I’d write something instead. To start off with, I reread Geoff Alexander’s history of the jazz organ here – <a href="http://www.afana.org/jazzorgan.htm" rel="external nofollow">http://www.afana.org/jazzorgan.htm</a></p><p>
</p><p>
Geoff is pretty shaky on the later period of Soul Jazz organists; he wrote the piece in 1988, at a time when much of the Blue Note catalogue was unavailable and hardly anything had been reissued on CD, so it’s not surprising that many of his judgements lack the perspective that wider listening would have brought. And a fair amount of research work has been done since that time. But it’s a helpful piece.</p><p>
</p><p>
The organ in the Soul Jazz era begins with R&amp;B, and so do I; though actually, many of the musicians involved in the R&amp;B organ scene were jazz musicians. Most of them had a swing background, and that’s what I’ve covered next.</p><p>
</p><p>
Thirdly, I’ve dealt with the development of the tenor/organ combo, one of the most significant and enjoyable types of band of the post war period.</p><p>
</p><p>
Next I’ve looked at the other musicians who developed modern approaches to the jazz organ, independently of Jimmy Smith, and approximately concurrently.</p><p>
</p><p>
Finally, I’ve looked at a few who probably were familiar with Jimmy Smith’s style but who didn’t want to play that way (or not entirely that way) and relied on Wild Bill Davis for much of their inspiration.</p><p>
</p><p>
More in subsequent posts later.</p><p>

	I had never actually heard of this model, but oddly there are now two of them for sale in my local area. One for just $400, but it has a bad power supply. The other for $4000!(both come with Leslies).
</p>

<p>
	I understand this is a digital emulation of the classic tone wheel design? I have some digital emulations of electric pianos, synthesizers and I generally find them sonicaly lacking compared to the analog originals. Some of the newest emulations are pretty decent, but this thing was made in the 1980s so I'm a little skeptical.
</p>

<p>
	There are a few youtube videos of the B3000 in action and it seems to sound pretty good actually. Can some more experienced organists tell me more about this model?

<p>
	Hi all, new member here from London UK!<br />
	<br />
	I've been learning organ for a while now - I have a Hammond SK2 and a Roland PK-7 pedal board, which has 20 short pedals.
</p>

<p>
	<br />
	This year while at home in lockdown I decided I wanted to make a real stab at learning how to play with my feet.<br />
	Because the Roland pedals are short I think I can only play with toes.  I'm getting better at finding notes without looking and<br />
	if I'm not too tired am quite accurate as long as it's only a couple of note per bar!  Co-ordinating with hands is trickier,<br />
	I find I can play pedal and LH fairly well but add the RH and things start to go wrong...<br />
	<br />
	So, I just wanted to ask folk here if they can recommend any resources that will help me improve my pedal technique?<br />
	eg. websites, YT channels, exercises<br />
	<br />
	Thanks,<br />
	Paul

<p>
	Hi there!,
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I am a lifetime lover of the Hammond B-3 sound, but I myself have never owned an organ. I am a guitar player(mostly jazz) who also plays a bit of piano.
</p>

<p>
	I am seriously looking into getting an organ for my home studio, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice.
</p>

<p>
	I'm looking for something portable, and I would like the ability to have two manuals eventually, as well as add a pedalboard.
</p>

<p>
	I've been trying to do some research on Hammond's site, and it seems like the X-k5 is what I'm looking for, in that it can have two manuals and I can attach a pedalboard? Also, it has a larger range of drawbars compared the cheaper Xk-1c.
</p>

<p>
	I'm looking for something with the closest sound to the B-3 as possible, but in a modern, portable package.
</p>

<p>
	Sorry if this is such a newbie question, but what would I be looking at, as far as required purchases? An X-k5(assuming I start with just one manual), a separate pedalboard, a Leslie(or two) and some kind of stand and all the necessary cables?
</p>

<p>
	I recently acquired both a Vent II and a Lounsberry Tall&amp;Fat. I like them both and intend to use one of them for my overdrive effect. Do any of you have opinions as to which is better for that purpose? I'm using an XK3-c.

<p>
	I'm pretty much new to the organ. I've had some synths and even a single-manual Hammond XB-2 15 years ago.
</p>

<p>
	I have decided to immerse myself in the organ, and I have a new Hammond SKX that should arrive any day now.
</p>

<p>
	My question is this. Have people noticed their piano playing suffering once they started playing organ? And vice versa.
</p>

<p>
	I think I can go back and forth no problem.
</p>

<p>
	But the thing is, I can't haul my 9 foot baldwin to a BBQ joint or an open mike.
</p>

<p>
	And recently I've got some rodent leaving nut shells inside the baldwin. In that octave right above middle C. Some notes sticking. whatever.
</p>

<p>
	So rather than evict the critter I'm getting a Hammond.

</p>

<p>
	Not a problem when using the organ sounds, but is apparent on all other instruments in solo or combined mode.
</p>

<p>
	Upper manual does not have this problem.
</p>

<p>
	Is there an easy fix, that I can do myself?
</p>

<p>
	Any feedback is very welcome!

<p>I have just upgraded from a Motionsound Pro145 to a Leslie 3300. because I needed more sound.</p><p>

I will be transporting the speaker in my SUV and, due to its height and weight, and am pondering loading and laying it on its side.</p><p>
I am sure they don't advise laying down. Anyone doing that?</p><p>
</p><p>
How about loading into the tailgate? Do you use a ramp, have help, or have any other solutions.</p><p>

	Is there a way to have piano on the lower manual and a flute sound on the upper manual? (or vice versa)

	I have a Moog Prodigy 336A, and I used to have a bunch sheets showing the various knobs, where you could write in your own preferred settings for different sounds and different tunes.  I am trying to find some blank sheets on the interwebz.  I am finding some for other models, but I have not yet found any for the 336A.  Does anyone know if there is a Website or forum that may have these?  Thanks in advance!

<p>Hello people, I am new to this so apologise in advance for any social blunders.</p><p>
</p><p>
So down here in Australia, tonewheel / clonewheel organs are pretty scarce, but I am considering options since I'm getting tired of trying to make do with a Nord Electro. I had a look at a new B-3, which was actually 3 - 4 years old. Pretty impressive. Much more so (I thought) than the XK-3C I checked out. So can anyone offer a view as to whether I ought to consider importing and converting (220V 50Hz down here) a restored original B3 vs. splurging on a new B-3? I'm just cautious about not being able to locate spare parts etc. (but that probably applies to the new B-3 down here as well).</p><p>
</p><p>
And also, other than the on-board Leslie sim, is there any compelling reason to go for the Mk2 (new B3)? It's just that with the exchange rate, the Mk2 is quite a bit more expensive.</p>

	I have one of these that has been in storage for ages.  Does anyone know if it is easy/possible to get parts for these? Are they easy or difficult to get repaired?

<p>
	Have owned many Hammonds over many years.  Bought an SK2 because it is light for an old guy to gig with.  Seems to be a lemon.
</p>

<p>
	1, Error message "panel disconnect" comes up - all controls are dead but the organ plays per the sound in use.  Originally a reboot would sometimes fix it but eventually nothing would make it operational again; Replaced main board - happened again today,
</p>

<p>
	2, At boot up, many times the factory presets will load and not the custom ones I have created - if I tap a preset button it loads the custom ones,  Problem is that all the other custom settings like foot switch control have gone back to factory default also!  grrrrrrrrrrrr
</p>

<p>
	3, Also - if you choose manual mode there is no sound until you move the drawbars for upper, lower and pedals...
</p>

<p>
	Anyone have suggestions?
</p>
