Red Richards and Friends, In a Mellow Tone (West 54); the friends being Norris Turney and Buck Clayton, (at least the friends in the front line). Sealed copy  just arrived in the mail, (and no warp from being sealed for 35 years or so).

Benny Carter: Jazz All Star Orchestra Live in Japan '79 (Paddlewheel)

An all-star band recorded live at a concert in Japan isn't usually my thing, but this one has a number of beautiful short solos that make it well worth listening to.

Bill Evans "portrait in jazz" (riverside, USA mono) bought this today from a friend who recently found the first "small label" issue so sold me his second (circa 1962?) mono issue for a good price.  Interesting to see the original and second issue side by side.  Besides the small DG label on the first issue there is also the clearer photographs on both the front and rear.  Anyway this second issue is super pristine and I actually have never owned this session before.

Blue Mitchell "out of the blue" (riverside, mono small label DG USA). Great album...a rare discogs bargain from a few months ago.

Pink Floyd "saucerful of secrets" (Columbia U.K. 1st issue). Bought this for maybe $10 20 years ago...it's in pristine condition and sounds amazing.

Toshiko Mariano "Toshiko meets her old pals" (King, Japan DG original).  Great 1961 album with Sadao Watanabe, Akira Miyazawa, Masahiko Togashi, Takeshi Inomata, etc.  The few originals are credited to Toshiko Mariano so I guess she was still married to Charlie at this time...

Don't apologise, all's fair in love and record sourcing, I hope you're enjoying it....however if you're not there's a home awaiting down south

Now playing, this morning's arrival

Rashid Ali & Le Roy Jenkins - Swift Are The Winds Of Life [Survival Record]. One of those to wish it was longer than it is at just shy of 30 minutes. Although the brevity may be a contributory factor of its considerable impact
